62,000 people packed the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, January 27th, 2018 in Atlanta, Ga, for the 16th Annual Honda Battle of the Bands. This annual marching band exhibition features performances by bands from historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). This showcase has been hosted by the American Honda Society for now 16 years, starting off the tradition in the once standing Georgia Dome. Since the Georgia Dome's demolition November 20th, 2017, the 16th Annual Honda Battle of the Bands Showcase was held at the newly-opened Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

HBCU band lineup:

-Miles College
-Hampton University
-Alabama A&M University
-Praire View A&M University
-North Carolina State University
-Alabama State University
-Tennesse State University
-Bethune-Cookman University

The energy that bounced from one band member to the next was very well alive and even apparent in the video (see above.) The horns and drum line are key components of the band and generate the some of the most memorable moments of performance, but other components definetly came full forced to make sure they were seen. Guest singers and choirs accompanied the music that the band played, along with the majorette dance teams and other surprise acts during each bands performance. A visually stunning collection of music, bright vivid uniform color and energy captured the crowd in every and any way possible.

Live performances from the R&B hit group 112 graced the stage during the half-time performance along with celebrity apperances in the audience shows how important this event is. A celebration of music, HBCU culture and Honda's support to Power the Dream brought the house down at the stadium.

The Honda 2018 Power of Dreams Award was presented to Brian Smith. Brian created the Blue Heart Foundation in Montgomery, Al as a way to fulfill basic needs and maintains the foundation with funds from his own pocket. His volunteer work teaching music at a local High School in Montgomery is just one of the additional ways he gives back to his community.
